"Vexations" is a solo piano work by French composer Erik Satie (1866–1925). The score fits easily on one page, but has cryptic instructions: "Pour se jouer 840 fois de suite ce motif, il sera bon de se préparer au préalable, et dans le plus grand silence, par des immobilités sérieuses." Translated: "In order to play the theme 840 times in succession, it would be advisable to prepare oneself beforehand, and in the deepest silence, by serious immobilities."

The single track has 42 iterations of the theme. To hear it 840 times, play the track twenty times in succession. This will take 18⅔ hours.

"Sonic Pi Vexations" was made with the software synthesizer Sonic Pi. Source code is included. To play "Vexations" all the way through in one run, change 42.times to 840.times. You can also change the bpm setting to slow it down or speed it up. Before doing either you should prepare yourself as Satie instructed.
